It’s easy to take double exposures with your Polaroid Now camera. Ready to get creative?
Express yourself in more ways than one with the double exposure feature, which allows you to combine two images into a single photo. Press the self-timer button twice to enable double exposure mode. The display will flash ‘1’ until the first shot is taken, then flash ‘2’ until the second shot is taken. Your photo will then eject as usual.
You can also use this feature together with the self-timer: press the self-timer button twice to activate the double exposure then press it once to activate the timer. You can activate it as well for the second exposure. For each exposure, you can also choose if you want to take it with or without flash.
The general rule is that your first photo should be quite dark: so, choose a dark subject, shoot this first one without flash or a backlit subject (without flash). For example, try your first photo as a back lit subject (without flash), and then a texture or a repetitive pattern as your second photo. Try to remember which parts of the first photo were bright, and which parts of the first photo were very dark, and make sure you place something interesting inside the dark area in your first image.
Some useful tips & tricks to master your double exposures:
- Whenever you’re shooting a double exposure portrait, use a seamless background, the result will be more defined (possibly not a white backdrop, though).
- If you’re taking double exposures with a moving subject, consider using a tripod: it will help you to get consistency.
- When taking the first photo, consider slightly underexposing your subject. It lowers the chance of overexposing your photo.
- If you want to go creative, use a background with a lot of color and texture (bright and vibrant colors are always a good choice)
- Use your creativity and try to combine two photos of the same subject: mirrored, partially overlapped, upside-down and so on… the more unexpected the better.
